Our Programmes
Developing Bermuda’s Riders — From First Pedals to Podiums
The Bermuda Bicycle Association’s Cycling Programmes are built on our Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) Plan, which guides every cyclist’s journey — from learning to ride to representing Bermuda internationally.
Our approach ensures that cycling in Bermuda is accessible, inclusive, and inspiring, helping riders of all ages build skills, confidence, and a lifelong love for the sport.

Youth (Ages 13–14)
Building Skills & Confidence
The Youth Programme introduces riders to the fundamentals of road and mountain biking in a safe, supportive environment.
Coached sessions focus on:
-
Bike handling, group riding, and road awareness
-
Fitness and endurance through fun, skill-based training
-
Entry-level races and closed-course events
These sessions are free for participants, with equipment support available through the BBA when possible.

Junior (Ages 15–18)
Developing Competitive Cyclists
For riders ready to take the next step, the Junior Programme delivers structured training designed around the race calendar and aligned with international standards.
Participants receive:
-
Two group training sessions per week
-
Ongoing performance testing and coaching feedback
-
Mentorship in nutrition, recovery, and mental preparation
-
Opportunities to represent Bermuda at regional and Caribbean championships
This phase emphasises teamwork, commitment, and performance development — preparing athletes for selection to overseas competition and university cycling teams.

Train to Win
(Ages 18–23)
High Performance Pathway
Athletes who continue into the Under-23 category receive support and monitoring while training and studying overseas.
The BBA works with university coaches and national selectors to ensure athletes remain connected to Bermuda’s cycling pathway and eligible for major events such as:
-
Caribbean Championships
-
Pan American Championships
-
World and Olympic qualification events
These athletes are also encouraged to give back by inspiring younger riders when home in Bermuda.

Elite Athletes & Pathways
The Bermuda Bicycle Association’s development pathway has produced world-class riders who now compete on the international stage. Through dedication, structured training, and BBA support, our athletes have represented Bermuda at the Caribbean, Pan American, Commonwealth, and World Championships, and even the Olympic Games.
Their success reflects the strength of Bermuda’s cycling community and the effectiveness of our Long Term Athlete Development framework — proving that with opportunity and commitment, Bermudian cyclists can compete among the best in the world.

Active for Life
Cycling for Everyone
Cycling is a sport for life. Beyond competition, the BBA promotes recreational rides, charity events, and community cycling initiatives to keep Bermudians of all ages active and connected.
Whether your goal is health, fitness, or simply the joy of the ride, there’s a place for you in Bermuda cycling.

Bike Exchange
Supporting riders under 18
The BBA Bike Exchange helps young cyclists stay on the road with bikes that fit as they grow.
Through donated and reconditioned equipment, riders aged 18 and under can exchange their bikes for properly sized models — keeping cycling accessible, safe, and affordable for every family.

Road Cycling
Fast. Tactical. Enduring.
Road cycling is the heart of Bermuda’s racing scene — a mix of speed, strategy, and stamina that tests every rider.
The BBA Road Race Season runs from March through November, featuring a full calendar of time trials, criteriums, and road races, including the island’s most iconic events such as the President’s Cup and National Championships.
Races are open to all categories — youth, juniors, adults, and recreational riders — with distances and formats suited to every level. Weekly group rides, coached sessions, and safe, organised races help riders build confidence and skill.

Mountain Biking
Ride off-road. Build skills. Have fun.
Sanctioned by the BBA, the Fat Tire Massive (FTM) Season runs from November through March, offering riders a chance to experience cycling’s adventurous side.
Events range from short-track and skills-based races to endurance challenges, all held on Bermuda’s trails, parks, and off-road courses.

The MTB season is perfect for developing bike handling, balance, and confidence — key skills that support all aspects of cycling. Youth and junior riders gain experience in a safe, friendly environment before progressing to road racing and beyond.
Join the Journey
Every cyclist in Bermuda — from young riders to elite competitors — can find their pathway in the BBA’s development framework.
Together, we’re building a stronger, healthier, and more successful cycling community.
