Zander Miller King of the Mountain (KOM)
Zander Miller won the Category 3 King of the Mountains title and the final-stage criterium as nine Bermuda riders took on the Green Mountain Stage Race in Vermont from September 4 to 7.
Miller also finished third in the sprint classification, while Nicholas Narraway placed 12th overall in the Men’s Pro/1/2 field and contributed to a successful weekend for Competitive Edge Racing. Dominique Mayho added a third-place stage finish and fifth overall in the Category 3 sprint standings.
Bermuda’s riders competed across five categories, with four consecutive days testing their individual speed, climbing, endurance and race tactics.
Four days, four different challenges
Stage 1: Individual time trial. Riders raced individually against the clock, with pacing and sustained effort determining the opening overall standings.
Stage 2: Circuit race. Repeated laps brought opportunities to attack, contest intermediate sprints and collect mountain points, while managing the demands of a long day in the saddle.
Stage 3: Road race. A demanding climbing stage tested endurance and reshaped the overall standings, with further mountain points available along the way.
Stage 4: Criterium. The final day featured fast laps of a short circuit, where positioning, cornering and teamwork were central to the racing. Intermediate sprints offered points and time bonuses before the final dash to the line.
Miller takes mountain honours
Racing for Winners Edge in Men’s Category 3, Miller showed his strength across both the climbs and the fast-paced finale.
He won both mountain-point climbs during Stage 2, then added second and fourth at the intermediate climbs on Stage 3. His total of 22 points secured the King of the Mountains title, four points ahead of his closest challenger.
Miller capped the weekend with victory in the concluding criterium. He also collected 19 sprint points on the final day to finish third in that classification.
After placing 25th in the time trial, 18th in the circuit race and 23rd in the road race, his stage victory helped him finish 15th overall in 6hr 37min 19sec, 4min 28sec behind the overall winner.
Mayho, riding for VT Construction, delivered another Category 3 highlight with third place in the circuit race. Second at an intermediate sprint that day, combined with his points at the finish, earned him fifth overall in the sprint classification with nine points.
Mayho finished 54th in the time trial, 53rd in the road race and 11th in the criterium to complete the event 42nd overall.
Che’Quan Richardson, representing Bicycle Works, recorded finishes in the opening three stages: 67th in the time trial, 66th in the circuit race and 64th in the road race. He was not listed in the final general classification.
Narraway contributes to Competitive Edge success
Nicholas Narraway finished 12th overall in Men’s Pro/1/2, recording a combined time of 8hr 3min 42sec, just 2min 45sec behind the winner.
Riding for Competitive Edge Racing, Narraway opened with 21st in the time trial before finishing eighth in the circuit race, the team’s highest placing that day. He followed with 26th in the road race and 40th in the final criterium.
His individual results were part of a broader team effort. Competitive Edge’s Aidan Vollmuth placed 13th in the opening time trial, while Andrew Frank finished fourth and Andrew Strohmeyer 13th in the road race.
The team then dominated the final-stage criterium, with Ryan Drummond taking victory, Strohmeyer finishing second and Frank seventh. Narraway and his teammates helped drive the pace and make decisive moves to deliver the one-two finish.
Narraway’s 40th place on the final stage therefore tells only part of his contribution. He was also active in the intermediate competitions, taking fourth and second at two points sprints and collecting a separate three-second time bonus.
He finished 11th overall in the sprint classification with six points and 13th in the King of the Mountains standings with three points, earned on Stage 2.
Competitive Edge also secured second and third in the overall sprint classification through Dylan Zakrajsek and Drummond, underlining the team’s involvement throughout the four days.
Olander and Millington complete women’s race
Pansy Olander and Charlotte Millington, both riding for VT Construction, completed all four stages in Women’s Pro/1/2/3.
Olander finished 46th overall. After placing 50th in the time trial, she finished 26th in the circuit race, recording the same time as the stage winner. She followed with 51st in the road race and rounded out her weekend with 22nd in the criterium.
Millington finished 49th overall, placing 55th in the time trial, 52nd in the circuit race, 41st in the road race and 51st in the criterium.
Four-stage experience for Bermuda’s juniors
Jacob Wright and Dylan Eiselt both completed the junior event, taking on four consecutive days of racing against a large field.
Wright finished 88th overall after placing 70th in the time trial, 94th in the circuit race, 86th in the road race and 90th in the criterium.
Eiselt finished 90th overall. He placed 75th in the time trial, 99th in the circuit race and 77th in the road race before recording his best stage placing of the weekend with 57th in the final criterium.
In the Men’s 50+ category, Steve Millington placed 33rd in the opening time trial. He was not listed in the subsequent stage results or final general classification.
Congratulations to all nine riders who took on the weekend’s challenges, and thank you to the families, friends and supporters who helped make their participation possible. From Miller’s mountain title and stage victory to Narraway’s contribution to Competitive Edge Racing’s success, there was plenty for Bermuda cycling to celebrate.
