The Bermuda Roulants Cycling Club [BRCC] delivered another innovative and exciting event this weekend with its Chase Race at Clearwater.
A spokesperson said, “The unique format saw all categories—Women, C, B, and A—racing eight laps of a fast 3.25-mile circuit, each group starting at staggered intervals. The overall winner would be the first rider of any category to cross the line.
“In damp and breezy conditions, the B category riders were held for three minutes before setting off to chase the Women’s and C groups, while the A category riders waited a full five minutes before starting their pursuit. What followed was a tactical and thrilling race, with the catch finally made less than one kilometre from the finish.
“In a dramatic finale, Matt Boys powered to the overall win, finishing six seconds clear of a fast-closing bunch. Jackson Langley claimed second place, narrowly ahead of Clifford Roberts in third and Sam Bullen in fourth.
“The BRCC continues to keep Bermuda’s race season fresh and fun with creative formats that challenge riders and entertain spectators alike.
“The Bermuda Bicycle Association extends its thanks to Race Director Stephen Ryan, Race Official Andrew Charlesworth, Timing by Mark Booth, and all course marshals and volunteers who made the event possible.”
